The bees
The saskatraz bees we are getting are not really common but are becoming common. They are a canadian bee. Saskatraz bees are bred for amazing traits, they are good honey producers, are somewhat gentle, and are resistant to mites other viral problems.
The carniolan honey bee is a western honey bee and is gentle and less aggressive.
Some problems
Some problems beekeepers face is:
Varroa mites, Varroa mites do not drink the blood of the bees as once thought they suck on the fat in the bees bodies you can not normally see them because they are under the bees and transfer virus to the bees, they also get into the brood and reproduce while the brood is growing giving the brood disabilities and making the brood grow wrong.
Wasps, wasps are carnivores and will eat the honey bees for breakfast, snack, lunch, afternoon snack, diner, dessert, and midnight snack if the bees do not have enough guards.
Wax moths, Wax moths get into the hives eat the wax and leave a silky trail all over the hives which leaves a mess and leave divots in the wood and silky cocoons .
The boxes
We got are mint colored box from trading some chickens to a friend in exchange for and old hive they had.
We got our yellow hive from "tractor supply".
Then we painted them yellow and mint. (I think the paint for the yellow said burned wheat)
